We had so much fun at the Oogie Boogie Bash! I have to say that I prefer this party at Disney California Adventure over Mickey’s Halloween Party that was held at Disneyland in past years. I think it was definitely a change for the better! If you are headed to the Oogie Boogie Bash be prepared to have a great time!
Just a few reminders. Remember that your ticket comes with early access to the park. If you are going to a Sunday party you can enter Disney California Adventure at 2pm and 3pm on Tuesday and Thursday parties. Also, remember your ticket to the Oogie Boogie Bash comes with unlimited downloads of photos from PhotoPass photographers. Be sure to download the free Disneyland app so you have access to all your photos!
If you take advantage of the early mix hours I suggest using that time to ride the attractions. Then when the party officially begins at 6pm you can experience all the things that are specific to the party. Have a plan before arriving so you can focus on everything you really want to do and see.
I also want to note that we didn’t do any of the character meet and greets. That just wasn’t a priority for us. But there are lots of meet and greets if that is something you enjoy. You can also see plenty of characters throughout the night just out and about.
We chose to start with Mickey’s Trick or Treat. My kiddos are young so we went to the 6:25pm show. We got in line at 6:10. I wanted to make sure we saw an early show because this is something I knew my kiddos would enjoy. This show is so extremely cute! Plus you get to see Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy! I think this is a must see especially if you have young children. This is at the Disney Theatre in Hollywood Land. Showtimes are 6:25pm, 7:10pm, 7:55pm, 9:25pm and 10:15pm.
After leaving the show we hit up some of the immersive treat trails. These were so fun! You walked along the trail and could interact with the character that was featured on that particular trail. The characters on the trails were so good at their craft! There are a total of five immersive treat trials. There is an Oogie Boogie in the Animation Academy, Dr. Facilier is at Stage 17, Mad Hatter at Hyperion Theatre Courtyard, you can find Maleficent at Grizzly Peak Airfield and the Evil Queen at Grizzly Peak Mountain Road. You can take strollers through the treat trails. Multiple candy stations are set up along all these trails so you get a lot of candy!! Also the lines for the treat trails can get long but don’t let that scare you they move quickly!
We did 3 treat trails (Oogie Boogie, Maleficent and Queen of Hearts) after Mickey’s Trick or Treat before we got in line for Villain’s Groove. This was my favorite part of the night. Villain’s Groove opens at 7:20 and is where Redwood Creek Challenge is. Again the line gets long but moves quickly. I was worried it might be a little scary for my kiddos but they loved it and didn’t find it scary at all. It was so well done. There are light projections everywhere, some slightly spooky decor and a perfect soundtrack to go along with it all. This is another must!!! Strollers aren’t allowed in Villain’s Groove.
After Villain’s Grove we headed to get a spot for the Frightfully Fun Parade. There is only one parade at 8:10 with the Headless Horseman riding through at 8pm. I think the best place to watch the parade is near the Little Mermaid attraction because the parade starts on that side of the park. That means less time waiting with the kiddos. Then as soon as the parade ends you can get a spot for Villainous (the World of Color Show) right after. This parade features Disney Villains with Mickey and Minnie leading the parade.
Villainous is the all new World of Color show that is exclusive to Oogie Boogie Bash. They have two shows one at 9pm and the other at 10:45pm. We watched the 9pm show right after the parade and were able to get a good spot for the kiddos to watch.
We then headed over to the DescenDance Party at the Hollywood Backlot. There are several opportunities to see this show throughout the night at 6:15pm, 7:30pm, 8:45pm, 9:45pm and 10:30pm. We made it for the 9:45 show and by this point Adaley was out! But this show was very high energy! The dancers really made this dance party so much fun for everyone!! If your kiddo is a big Descendant fan then I would be sure to come dance along.
After this Kaleb was fading fast so we hit the last two treat trials, The Mad Hatter and Dr. Fallicer. We then headed home with a bag full of candy and so many memories from the 2019 Oogie Boogie Bash.
What are you most looking forward to at the Oogie Boogie Bash?
